UPDATE: BPD arrests suspect following fatal hit and run near State St. and Roe St.

Arrested: Edin Begic, 36, Boise

Charges: Evidence – Destruction, Alteration or Concealment (F), Accident – Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in an Injury or Death (F)

On Tuesday around 7:15 pm Boise Police detectives were called out to the 2000 block of W. Stewart Ave. for a follow-up on the fatal hit and run crash on State St. near Roe St. A tow truck driver who was patrolling for cars without permits in a nearby apartment complex noticed a vehicle covered in blankets and removed the vehicle from the parking lot and onto his flatbed truck. The driver was aware of the information shared about the suspect vehicle and called police. The vehicle, a silver Honda, had extensive front-end damage, a shattered windshield, and additional evidence indicating it was the vehicle involved in the fatal crash. After locating the vehicle, detectives located a potential suspect with connections to the vehicle, Edin Begic. Following an investigation Begic was arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail on the listed charges.

On Tuesday, the Ada County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 56-year-old Erma Sookiyak of Anchorage, Alaska. We want to thank the Boise community for assisting investigators by sharing crucial information about the suspect vehicle, which ultimately led to an arrest in this case.

Boise Police are continuing to investigate a fatal hit and run on State Street near Roe Street. Investigators have been canvassing the area for evidence and witnesses and they are following up on leads. Evidence indicates the collision occurred sometime between 6:30 pm and 7:15 pm. It’s believed the driver was traveling east on State Street when they struck the adult female victim who was on or near the roadway.

Vehicle description: The suspect vehicle is believed to be silver or grey and likely has noticeable damage to the front end, windshield, and hood.

Previously Released: November 20, 2023

Around 7:15 this evening Boise Police responded to a report of a possible hit and run on State Street west of N. Roe Street  Responding officers located one deceased female victim.  Officers secured the scene and the eastbound lanes of State Street were closed for the investigation.  Detectives from the Boise Police Violent Crime Unit responded to the scene along with a crash reconstruction team from the Idaho State Police. At this time the investigation is ongoing and officers are working to locate the suspect and the vehicle involved.
