The Boise Police Department is releasing new public data dashboards to provide the community with information about crime reports in Boise on a consistent basis. The goal of the dashboards is to give the public quick access to the data that the police department uses to track trends and improve public safety response.
“While we continue to see a decline in overall crime in Boise, it’s important that we give our community the tools to look at more specific details,” said Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar. “It’s an honor to serve this community and we want to provide a more holistic look at the information we use to make decisions and understand what’s happening in our neighborhoods.”
The dashboards offer options to view overall crime trends and maps where you can type in an address and locate nearby crime reports. The dashboards also include filters to narrow down the data by crime type, date, and area.

“As a department, we are continuously trying to find new ways to improve and do our jobs better, and these dashboards are part of that effort,” said Chief Winegar. “I want to commend the hard work of our data analysis team for taking a large amount of data and putting it in a format that can be searched and easily used by the public.”
The crime stats shown on the dashboards reflect what is defined by Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) and National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) standards as Group A Crimes. The crime stats shown on the website reflect a rolling five-year period and are as recent as up to 10 days ago.
The public data included on the dashboards does not include any personally identifying information or addresses. Sexual assault crimes are also not available on the mapping dashboards to protect victim identification.
The crime data shown on this dashboard is just part of the work BPD does for the community, officers also respond to many calls for help that never result in a criminal report. Those contacts could be welfare checks, calls for assistance, or other preventive connections with our school resource officers, bike officers, neighborhood contact officers or warnings from our traffic enforcement team. In the future, the police department plans to expand the data available on the website to include additional calls for police services and more crime types.
