Update: Two Victims Pass Away After House Fire on W. Huntwood Dr.

August 6, 2021

The Boise Fire Department has learned that the two adult victims who were taken to the hospital following a house fire on W. Huntwood Drive on July 19th, 2021 have passed away from their injuries.  Both victims were transported from a local hospital to a hospital in Salt Lake City shortly after the fire.  One of the victims passed away on July 20, 2021, the other victim passed away on July 28, 2021.

“This was a devastating fire for our firefighters and the community.  Serious injuries and loss of life is something that affects all of us and our hearts go out to the victims and their family,” said Boise Fire Department Division Chief and Fire Marshal Mike Bisagno.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is complete and it’s been classified as accidental.  Upon examination of the fire scene, evidence suggests the fire started due to an electrical failure in the carport.  It is not believed that smoke detectors in the home were in working condition at the time of the fire.

As a reminder, the Boise Fire Department recommends smoke alarms for every level of your home and routine testing.  For more tips on smoke alarm installation and maintenance please visit https://www.cityofboise.org/departments/fire/fire-prevention/fire-safety-and-education/fire-safety/smoke-alarms/

Previously released: July 19, 2021

The Boise Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire in the ten thousand block of West Huntwood Dr. in Southwest Boise at 2:09 a.m. Two adults, one male and one female, were transported to a local hospital with what appeared to be life-threatening injuries as a result of the house fire. Currently, there are no updates on their condition.

Three engines, one ladder truck, and a Battalion Chief arrived on scene within minutes to find a one-story, single-family home with extensive fire involvement on the front and one side of the home.  This incident was upgraded to a full first alarm assignment immediately after arrival adding two additional engines, a ladder truck, and Battalion Chief, along with two units from Ada County Paramedics. The fire destroyed most of the home, including a vehicle located in the attached carport. This fire was controlled by crews within three hours of arrival time. One firefighter was taken to a local hospital and received stitches for a laceration and was later released. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.
